The Problem
Many local trails and outdoor recreation areas experience litter, erosion, overgrowth, and general wear that can negatively impact trail safety, environmental health, and the experience of trail users. At the same time, many youth have limited opportunities to participate in meaningful environmental stewardship projects and develop leadership skills through community service. We want to help protect and improve the trails our community uses while empowering young people to become active stewards of the environment.
Our Plan
Through our Trail Gnomes: Youth Trail Stewardship Project, youth participants will work alongside mentors and community partners to conduct trail cleanups, remove litter and debris, perform approved trail maintenance activities, improve trail sustainability, and educate others about responsible trail use. Youth will help identify trail needs, plan service projects, and lead stewardship efforts that benefit riders, hikers, wildlife, and the broader community while developing leadership, teamwork, and environmental responsibility.
