The Problem

We wanted to introduce how to make noticable change in students' communties. As they are IB PYP year 6 students transitioning into Year 7 of the IB MYP, which is heavy on community service/making impact, we wanted to demonstrate to the students how to make projects for positive chnage in their communites, and why it is meaningful to do so.

Our Plan

We brainstromed as a group, and made a interactive presentation to understanding why to make change first, in a level appropriate for year 6 students. Later, we showed them how to apply the Roots & Shoots formula for projects after showing them how to do it, and encouraged them to apply it to their school and/or home community.

Here is how the project went:

It went really well! We thought of an interactive way to teach, and apply the formula for year 6 students. We were in contact with primary school teachers to organize the session, seeing which which would fit best. It went well!

Through this project I/we learned:

We learned communication through organizing an event, making sessions in a way so they're fun and interactive for younger students, and also we learned that change can be done with people of all ages!

What I/we might change:

We would maybe make it more feasible. Eg. we would explain the formula and let them do the projects in contrast of it being fully in a classroom. This may make it easier for the students to draw connections from theory and real world.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

My favorite part of it was conducting the interative presentation, and seeing students' ideas!

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

When working with a different age group, ensure that the information is presented in a way suitable for your audience to understand.
