The Problem

Shark populations are declining due to overfishing, targeted shark fishing, and the demand for shark fins. In Florida and beyond, many sharks are killed or harmed by unsustainable fishing practices, which threatens the health of ocean ecosystems. At the same time, sharks are widely misunderstood and often feared, making it harder to build public support for their protection. This project aims to address both the direct threats to sharks and the lack of public understanding by raising awareness, advocating for stronger protections, and inspiring people to value sharks as essential to a healthy ocean.

Our Plan

We are raising awareness about shark conservation through education, advocacy, and community engagement. This includes working alongside Jim Abernethy to promote shark protection, encouraging the public to sign petitions supporting stronger regulations on shark fishing and finning, and speaking directly with legislators to advocate for policy change. In addition, we are educating others, especially young people, through presentations and my book \"Shark Defender\", which helps challenge misconceptions about sharks and highlights their importance to ocean ecosystems. By combining outreach, education, and advocacy, this project aims to create both immediate awareness and long-term change for shark conservation.
