Our community is losing green space due to development, and there has been a decline in native plant species, as well as habitat loss for wildlife. Additionally, our human community is struggling with access to food, rising costs, and access to supplemental options like gardening.
We are planning to build a Seed Library as an extension to our community Pollinator Garden. This will be a place where community members can access and exchange seasonally appropriate seeds with local educational resources inspiring curiosity while fostering confidence and environmental responsibility. We also plan to have a free native plants \'Green Wagon\' set up near the garden for gardeners who are dividing and exchanging native plants. We recognize the need for both increased native plants in our community, as well as the need for food-producing plants for families and individuals, and plan to offer both options, as well as flower seeds to help feed our pollinators specifically.

During the winter months, we are meeting to divide saved and donated seeds, package in paper envelopes, and label so that we are prepared for spring. Next year, we hope to guide residents through winter sowing methods as well, and we will be sharing information about winter sowing in January and February this year. We recognize the need for both increased native plants in our community, as well as the need for food-producing plants for families and individuals, and plan to offer both options, as well as flower seeds to help feed our pollinators too.
We learned to work together to accomplish a shared goal, as well as to collaborate with other community groups of adults accomplishing similar goals.
We might try to have a few more building days - it took us a bit longer to accomplish our build than we anticipated!
We had a lot of fun sorting seeds and packaging them for the seed library.
