2025 Roots & Shoots Youth Council
Jane Goodall Institute USA

State: Illinois

Years on RSYC: 2024–2025

Marlee is a dedicated conservationist focused on marine ecology, STEM education, and community outreach.

Over the past year, Marlee has organized and led STEM workshops for 2nd-6th graders at Boys and Girls Clubs across the Chicago metro area.

Through these hour-long workshops, she aims to spark creativity and build confidence in young learners. Marlee also serves as a Teen Board Member for Shedd Aquarium, collaborating with NOAA on community-based projects, hosting beach cleanups, and advancing environmental education initiatives.

Beyond her Roots & Shoots work, Marlee competes in Track and Field, participates in robotics, and is an avid scuba diver. She recently received a grant to introduce STEM to youth and attended the RSYC summit in Wyoming, which she considers a highlight of her year.

Marlee says the Council has helped her “realize what was possible for me and my work, inspiring me to step out of my comfort zone and share my ideas.”
