The Problem

The campaign my students and I have chosen is to increase biodiversity on our school campus. Our school is located deep in the inner city and lacks both plant and animal biodiversity. 90% of our school is paved with concrete. Even our football field is made of astro-turf. We do have cement planters but they are either empty or have dying plants. We also have a school garden that needs renovation. The reason we choose to address this problem is because we are learning about the importance of biodiversity and the role of native plants and animals in keeping an ecosystem healthy.

Our Plan

We will alleviate the problem by building shelters for birds, squirrels, bats, insect and hummingbirds. We would also like to plant a milkweed garden to attract and increase the monarch butterfly population. We also want to make a native plant garden for students to enjoy.
