Sierra is from Sandy, Utah, where she is a strong advocate for seismic safety in Utah’s schools. During her time on the council, this has continued to be her primary focus. During her time on the council, she has had the opportunity to testify before the Utah Seismic Safety Commission and to share her concerns about the safety of all of Utah’s students, including those in school districts that don’t have the resources to install new structures in dangerous buildings. Though frustrating, Sierra is learning how complicated funding can be for projects like this, especially with disputes about control over funds at the state v. local level. Even as this work continues, she has also been advocating recently for the protection of her local canyon! When not speaking to legislators or media about these issues, Sierra plays volleyball on her club team, sings with the One Voice Children’s Choir, and hikes the mountains near her home.
