Serena is a determined wildlife conservationist, researcher, and talented nature photographer.
Serena’s current project is nurturing a green roofing pilot program alongside other students at her university.
Serena’s group recently installed a green roof on their college campus to test the roof’s effectiveness at combating climate change impacts at the community level. Since its installation, Serena and her team have been conducting research to measure and quantify the positive impacts of green roofs, and are sharing their findings at conferences for further impact.
Outside of Roots & Shoots, Serena is a leader in a campus environmental education club and conducts conservation research. She is the vice president of an organization that provides free environmental education programs to young students in her area. In her free time, Serena enjoys hiking, rock climbing, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
On how to sustain hope, Serena says: “It’s so important to look towards the good things happening in the world during dark times, and find hope within each other and our shared love for our Earth.”
