From book drives to legal aid for asylum seekers, Preston is determined to help people in need, with past projects like a menstrual products drive for women, collecting books for children in the hospital and helping refugees seeking asylum in NYC.
Currently, Preston is working on language learning resources for Indigenous groups and countries at risk due to the effects of climate change.
He is a member of the Hudson River Estuary Restoration & Conservation group and works with his university’s program to support English Language classes for asylum seekers.
Outside of Roots & Shoots, Preston studies computer science at college, plays basketball and baseball, and likes to watch anime. He enjoys cooking and is a member of his school’s Culinary Society. Preston also broadcasts sports for WKCR, New York’s local radio station.
Reflecting on what makes Roots & Shoots special, Preston says: “We are never static which is why we can do so many amazing things, because when you don’t close off your mind anything becomes possible.”
