Years on RSYC: 2024
Preston is a young changemaker determined to help people in need, focusing on environmental justice issues. Of his many service activities over the years, he’s especially proud of collecting over 10,000 sanitary napkins for young women at a school in Ghana.
Preston is currently working with fellow RSYC member, Victoria S., to collect and donate books to children suffering with cancer through a project called Books For Change.
The effort aims to provide children with cancer a sense of normalcy. He hopes it will ultimately grow to become a partnership with children’s hospitals like St Jude’s. Preston is inspired to spread awareness about environmental issues like improving public transit, environmental racism, and pollution of public waterways.
Preston belongs to the Hudson River Estuary Restoration & Conservation group and studies computer science in college. Outside of class and volunteering, Preston is learning how to cook, plays basketball and baseball, and loves anime and a wide variety of music.
About the young adults and kids he’s worked with, Preston says: “They give me hope that the future is bright and blindingly so.”
