Mahir is a Freshman at University of Florida. This is his second year on the National Youth Leadership Council. Since founding the Gateway High School Roots & Shoots group, Mahir has been able to pursue progressive projects that foster an equal environment for all students. Through his work with Roots and Shoots, STEMchats, and IB Council, he continues to learn the importance of fluidity, failure, and critical thought, in solving local and global social, environmental, and animal issues. Mahir’s aspirations consist of creating a world of equitable medical and educational opportunities. His favorite Roots & Shoots project has been the Osceola Women’s Wellness Project, which brings attention to menstrual inequity and limited access to female hygiene resources. In his spare time, Mahir participates in several honor society programs, advocates for minorities within his community, and enjoys spending time with his family.
