Years on RSYC: 2017-2023
Through community service and Roots & Shoots, Everett discovered his love for teaching and for sharing his love for nature with others. As a Roots & Shoots Council member, Everett focused on the intersection of art, education, and nature in his projects. Good Spokes, his longest running project, raised over $8,000 for various community and national nonprofits
Since 2023, Everett has been the RSYC Engagement Coordinator. His work includes mentoring youth leaders, facilitating Council meetings and projects, and representing Roots & Shoots at events like the 2024 Children & Nature Network’s Nature Everywhere conference. He also worked with Roots & Shoots Youth Councils in other countries to foster global collaboration.
After graduating college with an Environmental Studies and Sustainability degree, Everett taught at several community non-profits, including a nature center and children’s museum, inspiring students to discover the wonder of nature around them. Everett continued this work as a Field Education Instructor at Teton Science Schools. He recently moved to Colorado to start graduate school and to work as a field educator at Walking Mountains Science Center. When not teaching or working with the RSYC, Everett loves drawing and lino block printing, hiking, kayaking, and backpacking.
Everett shares the following advice to all changemakers “When you are passionate about the work that you do, when you can see a direct line between your values and your projects, that is when you can create the greatest positive change!”
