Caymus channels her enthusiasm and knack for creativity into collaborative environmental action to improve the environment.
As the founder of Trash Turtles, Caymus leads waste-reduction initiatives and sustainability education campaigns in her community.
With the motto of “save the planet one piece of trash at a time,” guiding her work, Caymus focuses on raising awareness and mobilizing local action. An active public speaker since age 10, Caymus regularly addresses city commissioners and other decision-makers in support of her environmental initiatives. Her efforts include community clean-ups and donating water re-fill stations to underserved schools, as well as distributing college scholarships.
Caymus engages others in these efforts through her vibrant social media presence, speaking at public events, and by serving as a mentor to younger environmental advocates. Beyond her activism, Caymus plays the trombone and water polo with her high school.
As Caymus embarks on her sixth year of Trash Turtles, she encourages other youth to trust themselves saying, “Just because you’re small doesn’t mean you have to have small ideas.”
