History with Roots & Shoots: First year with Roots & Shoots

Adrija is a junior from Edison, New Jersey. This is her first year on the National Youth Leadership Council. After visiting Alaska and learning more about its beauty and history, Adrija developed her favorite Roots & Shoots project, a home dining fundraiser aimed at providing resources for education to Alaskan youth. Through this project she was able to fundraise over $500 and reflect on what she had experienced to take action on a project she is cared about. Adrija is passionate about education in the STEAM fields and combines her interest in other cultures with her love of art to host educational workshops in her community on geography. In addition to serving on the NYLC, she also serves as the Executive Vice President of iStart Valley Artificial Intelligence Innovation Council, the secretary of her school’s Red Cross Club, a council member of Frank Pallone Jr’s Youth Advisory Council for the 6th Congressional District of New Jersey, and a Mentor at GeoEd Foundation. When she’s not working on one of her many responsibilities, Adrija can be found with her school’s Science Olympiad team, Quiz Bowl team, Technology Student Association club, newspaper, or writing for the Queen Bee Project.
