I am a third grade teacher in Corona Queens. I live nearby in Rego Park with my wife and baby daughter.
Elm Tree School is a wonderful school community, serving a very low-income area. Our kids want to learn, and want to succeed, and so we do everything we can to help them. We are also a dual language school, which presents unique challenges, but helps us to prepare our kids for a multi-lingual future.
We were one of the districts that was hit had and hit early by the pandemic. Many of our families are still dealing with loss. We are trying to give these kids a great education, but also the emotional support to help them deal with these feelings that a little kid should never have to deal with.
