Biography |
I grew up in Florida before all the extreme development. So much of where I lived had a great biodiversity and there were thousands of things in nature for a small girl to be interested in there. I loved trees and spent many hours of my days walking and climbing in them. My father also was very interested in nature and ecology back then and he was friends with The Cruikshanks who were naturalists, authors and activists to try to save the ecology of the St. Johns River. We would go see them in Merritt Island now and then.
Ever since then I have wanted to be involved in helping to educate and engage others in conservation. I did spend a few years as President of a conservation and bird watching group in Oklahoma City and got grants to plants native trees at our city lake. Those trees are still there.
I just completed Dr. Goodall’s Master Class and it has inspired me to try to take more action and be involved. I hope through Roots and Shoots that locally we can enhance knowledge and awareness of how we all can be better at enabling a conservational awareness in our community.
