On the 19th, I was returning to my town, and on the way we passed a huge wildlife sanctuary. I SAW A WILD ELEPHANT!! It was a little smaller than I an adult but way bigger than a baby. I think maybe it was a teenager or young adult. He or she was in the jungle but quite out and very near to me. But still, there were a lot of leaves so he/she was…[Read more]

Hi, I live in Austin, and there’s this place right outside of Austin that have these really amazing asian elephants, but there making them do tricks, and shows for people. All the trainers have a bullock in their hand, which they refer to as a “guide” for the elephants. I really want to help the elephants, but I’m not sure how. Any ideas???
Okay, first you’ve GOT to spread awareness to people and talk about it as much as possible and post it on social media. Once people know, the animal lovers will do all they can to save them. Try to raise money with some good people interested and try to help the elephants.
You can also join my group Refuse to Ride! Helping elephants.
Thanks so much, I’ll do that. I’ve had no ideas on the issue, and you posted.
Sorry, meant keep you posted.
I thought about what you and one other Roots and Shoot group said about the issue, and I came with a plan. First I’ll spread awareness, like you said. After enough people are aware, I will look into the laws, and see if there’s any laws about it. If I can’t find any laws they’re not following I will talk to the trainers about the bullock and…[Read more]
Sorry,I meant project, not group.
Great idea!! There is a group called wildlife sos (they have offices in USA too). They help elephants so maybe they can help. You can contact them on Facebook or email them. Good luck!

Hmm… Are they hurting the elephants with the bullock? That sounds like a problem. If they are hurting the elephants, there may be laws in Texas against that. You might be able to report them, but only if they’re breaking the law. Other than that you might just talk to the trainers about them and learn some more about what’s happening. Maybe you…[Read more]

Dear Ecopat, I am so glad you have ideas! But unfortunately there is no humane way to train them. 😔

Good news! Our school board passed the climate resolution unanimously! If you want to see what it looks like (so that you can maybe get your own school board to pass one) here’s a link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mZp_S1JuoYmdm41bH6JOZ0Jua5gtwfHD/view?usp=sharing

If you visit India for a holiday, DO NOT RIDE THE ELEPHANTS. It may seem fun but to to train elephants they are stolen from their mothers and go through a painful training known as “the crush”. They torture them until they are do afraid, they’ll do anything to avoid getting hurt. Don’t ask the trainers about this cause they’ll just say “oh no not…[Read more]

Hi Emerson! Thank you for sharing. I know. It can be so hard seeing things that seem wrong to us and which are upsetting. It makes me feel a bit better though knowing there are people like you around who care and want to make change.
Does the place have a website? Sometimes there is an email address or a ‘Contact Us’ section on the website. I bet…[Read more]

Did you know that every minute, a small city block’s worth of trees in Canada’s majestic boreal forest is clearcut by one company? It’s probably one you know, too. Procter & Gamble, which own the toilet paper brand Charmin, is doing this. And these trees are old growth, meaning that they are especially good at stopping climate change. The forests…[Read more]

We have a Happy Little Update for our group! We were able to connect with another local family to assist with catching and helping another community cat population. A beautiful Siamese cat was continuously having babies in the neighborhood. We were able to loan two traps to the family and teach her how to set them and use them properly. Multiple…[Read more]
