Biography

Post Crashers, a service-learning club led by young people, has grown to encompass over 900 members across ten years, ranging from fourth graders to college students. Affiliated with the American Legion Post 295 in Northfield, the club, now in its tenth year, dedicates its efforts to supporting veterans and addressing issues like poverty, food security, nutrition, and agriculture. The student leader is Chris Garrabrant. Post Crashers’ goal is to improve the lives of our community members by providing fresh produce, lunches, and meals to those in need, and making the Post a place that distributes information on available services to homeless and insecure veterans. Over the years, our efforts have yielded remarkable results: we’ve prepared 19,000 lunches for the homeless, served 4,500 full-course meals to homeless veterans, and grown more than 12,000 pounds of produce for those facing food insecurity. Furthermore, recognizing the pervasive problem of food insecurity in my community, Chris and his brother took initiative to establish a food recovery program. Through their collective dedication, we have repurposed more than 100,000 bagels, distributing them to 15 organizations that cater to food-insecure families.
