*** CLIMATE CHANGE CHAMPIONS – FIRST CHALLENGE ***
As Olivia mentioned, our group is going to set up challenges each week. This week, our first challenge will be on saving water. I’m going to post a list of suggestions for saving water. Let us know if you have any more suggestions! Please post if you’re doing the challenge. Thank you!
1. Take shorter baths or showers. Or if you usually take a bath, take a shower since it uses less water.
2. Turn off water when you brush your teeth.
3. Turn off water when you wash your hands for the 20 seconds of scrubbing.
4. Collect rain water in buckets or barrels to water your plants.
5. Don’t flush for #1 all the time.
6. Re-wear your clothes that aren’t stinky so you don’t have to wash them as often.
7. Reuse your towels.
8. Reuse glasses, cups, and dishes whenever possible.
9. Use old water (at the end of a drink, etc.) to water plants instead of dumping down the sink.
10. Drink water instead of juice (it takes 200 liters of water to make 1 glass of orange juice).
11. Give up water guns.
12. Research water conservation.
Books on water conservation:
A Drop in the Ocean: The Story of Water (Science Works) by Jacqui Bailey
A Drop Around the World by Barbara McKinney
Enough Water?: A Guide to What We Have and How We Use It by Steve Conrad
Explore Water!: 25 Great Projects, Activities, Experiments (Explore Your World) by Anita Yasuda
The Water Princess by Susan Verde
Water Is Water: A Book About the Water Cycle by Miranda Paul
Water Wow! (A Visual Exploration) by Paula Ayer and Antonia Banyard
What On Earth?: Water: Explore, create and investigate by Isabel Thomas
Those are great, Emily! I will try to do as many as I can and I hope others will as well!
Great! I hope so too. Let us know how it goes.
