Genevieve Leroux posted an update in the group Milkweed for Monarchs 4 years, 11 months ago
In 2018, Genevieve moved to Quebec where her work with Monarch Butterflies continues. Her work to save the Monarch now spans two countries on opposite coasts! Genevieve has assisted the National Capital Commission to collect data of Monarch larva, eggs and Monarch butterflies.
Genevieve has created and starred in multiple informational videos about her project to prevent the extinction of the Migratory Monarch. Genevieve has also given lectures at local schools in the Ottawa region.
Genevieve has continued her work to encourage local politicians to pass legislation to save the Monarch Butterfly. In fall of 2018, she presented to Ottawa’s Standing Committee on the Environment, Water and Waste Management. The City Councillors agreed to review pesticide and land use practices. They also declared June 7, 2019, Ottawa’s first Annual Pollinator Day Celebration. Mayor Jim Watson revealed a pollinator demonstration garden and thanked Genevieve for her work to save the Monarch. Genevieve has also convinced the Mayor of Gatineau to take the Mayors Monarch Pledge.
Last September, Genevieve met with Dr. Jane Goodall and during their meeting, Dr. Jane asked Genevieve to create a tri-national project that will link all Monarch Roots and Shoots projects from Canada, the United States and Mexico. Now Dr. Jane and Genevieve have made a video together to encourage participation in this linking of all projects created to help Monarchs in all three countries!
