Sierra is an advocate for seismic safety and STEM education, balancing her passions for research and community outreach.
Sierra’s project, the Utah School Seismic Safety campaign, continues to raise awareness about earthquake preparedness in schools.
Sierra brought attention to her cause by publishing an op-ed in a major local newspaper to cultivate a sense of urgency in her community about earthquake safety. She also secured a grant to launch STEM education initiatives for under-resourced communities, focusing on making science accessible and inspiring. In college, Sierra is currently working to expand her work to California and is planning to start a Roots & Shoots group at her school.
Outside of Roots & Shoots, Sierra studies Chemistry and expresses her love for singing by participating in her university’s choir as well as an acapella group. Sierra is especially enjoying crocheting, drawing, and painting to express her creativity.
Sierra notes of her fellow Council members, “we all are passionate about the same causes and find intersections between our ideas to make our projects come to life.”
