History with Roots & Shoots: First year with Roots & Shoots
Roots & Shoots Group: Team Marine
Daniel is a senior from Venice, California. This is his first year on the National Youth Leadership Council. Daniel’s favorite Roots & Shoots project is Community for Gardens and Gardens for the Community because it is intersectional, feeding people, bolstering economic and job security, sequestering carbon, supporting biodiversity and endangered species, and benefitting the mental health of attendees and participants. Moving forward, he is excited to work more with social and environmental justice projects. Daniel is passionate about fossil fuel divestment, biodiversity, and economic, environmental, and social justice. In addition to co-leading his Roots & Shoots group and serving on the NYLC, he is president of SamoHi Garden, and a member of the Biodynamics Association, Climate Corps, Food and Water Watch, the Learning Garden, CompostLA, and Seeds to Plate. In his spare time and as inspiration for many of his projects, Daniel enjoys gardening both as a sustainable food source and to benefit pollinators.
