The Problem

The Ute Pass Elementary Wellness Team is working on creating a building wide brain break initiative for students of all ages and levels. These brain breaks are designed with proprioception at the forefront. Body position, motion, and equilibrium have been taken into account when creating these activities. Additionally, the building Occupational Therapist has shared ideas and guided the formation of activities for the students to partake in. Currently, our proprioception activities are duck taped to the walls along the hallway. Our hope is to make these brain break activities more permanent throughout the building.

Our Plan

Already many students from Pre-K to 6th grade are pausing in the hallway to engage in the proprioception activities that have been provided. The hope is that more students will continue to utilize the activities as they transition from classes, or simply need a break from academia. To determine the success of our campaign, classroom polls and surveys can be taken. This quantitative data will help us gauge whether or not our centers should extend to our playground, which would be our next step in completing our building wide brain break initiative.
