Learning Landscapes Wildlife Improvement Project

The Problem

My wish for this project is for students to develop and test solutions related to some of the land management issues on the Learning Landscapes property. This is a property adjacent to the school that is managed by the local land trust and was created for learning purposes. Students will come up with solutions for improving wildlife habitat on this property and solving some of the issues related to wildlife.

Our Plan

Students will come up with solutions for improving wildlife habitat on this property and solving some of the issues related to wildlife. This will include coming up with proposals for how to manage the beaver dams that are causing flooding issues in the close upstream neighborhood, managing invasive species, and putting in bird boxes to increase the bird habitat on the property. First, we will have an identification stage where students identify some of these problems. Then, there will be a planning stage where students create proposals for action. Then there will be the implementation stage where students implement the projects they have planned. Last, there will be a community outreach stage where students present their projects to the community.
