What is your wish for this project?
Children will learn about caring for pets responsibly and observe the consequences of people who abandon their pets. They will learn the role of Animal Control in a large city. They will also feel empowered by helping to make toys and/or blankets to be donated to the shelter.
How did it go?
Students met with an animal control officer who came to school and spoke to them about responsible pet ownership. The next week students met and made animal toys out of fleece material cut into strips. We used 6 strips of fleece and wrapped it around a cardboard rectangle. We then tied it around the middle and slid it off of the cardboard. We cut the fleece loops and made a toy suitable for either a cat or a dog to throw and play with.
