Group Leaders

"Participation in Roots & Shoots has raised awareness of social and environmental issues in our entire community. When community members see us going to the animal shelter and selling books to raise money for hurricane victims, their awareness is heightened just by exposure to our projects. I have had so many parents thank me for starting our Roots & Shoots group and involving their children in working to help others."

Engage any group, club or organization with community service projects

Do you lead a youth group such as a scout troop, religious club or environmental action organization that is already active in community service projects? Perhaps you coach or teach a group of kids in skills that aren't traditionally associated with service projects, such as dance, art, karate or cooking, but you've thought about how you could showcase these talents and benefit the community at the same time. With Roots & Shoots, we can help your group engage in youth-led projects that are fun for all participants and that make a difference in your community. Our method adapts to any group, no matter what your charter, mission, interest or size.

Empower youth to make a difference in their lives and in our world

With Roots & Shoots, youth-driven leadership is a core value. This puts kids in the "driver's seat," which gets them more engaged and excited about your group's projects. When kids take an active role in identifying an issue and then planning and implementing a solution, they develop better organizational skills, enhance their self-esteem, improve their interpersonal communications and inspire others. As a group leader, you won't be taking a "back seat." You'll be mentoring the budding leadership skills of the kids in your group! The projects can be as simple as making and delivering holiday cards to senior citizens or more elaborate, such as composting your church's biodegradable lunch leftovers to reduce landfill waste. The size and type of project is not the most important factor the opportunity for personal growth and the recognition that every individual can make a difference is what really matters.
