Roots and Shoots

Connect with others on campus, across the country and around the globe!

When you join or start a Roots & Shoots group on your campus, you create opportunities to connect with your classmates and the people in your dormitory or apartment. When you plan projects together, you share insights, inspiration and knowledge about issues that matter to you. And, because your projects are visible and encourage the participation of your fellow students on and off-campus, you'll have even more opportunity to connect and build bonds with people who might otherwise not get to know you or each other.

Don't stop with the student body. When your professors see your enthusiasm and commitment, they'll be encouraged to support your projects and possibly get involved, too. You can engage families, friends and employers of students to help with your projects, broadening the circle of concerned individuals and fostering friendships with like-minded people.

You have an opportunity to develop positive relationships between your campus and the surrounding community, opening new doors for communication and new channels of understanding. And because Roots & Shoots connects you with other caring, compassionate students around the globe, there's a good chance that you'll continue to meet other Roots & Shoots alumnae wherever your post-graduate career takes you.

Enhance Your College Experience
Students across the country have made Roots & Shoots an essential part of their college experience. For many, it is the most memorable and meaningful part of their college years. Make it part of yours!

Are you into biology, horticulture or the environment?
A Roots & Shoots group at Rutgers University designed a land stewardship program where they cleaned up and landscaped a littered and neglected area of campus. They turned the project into a research study that measured students' attitudes and actions pre-and post clean-up.

You can start or join a Roots & Shoots group that sells art to raise money for endangered species, teaches dance at a local senior center, organizes fellow musicians for a benefit concert or generates letters to editors educating others about humanitarian issues, and what they can do to solve them.

Are you a "geek" who loves math, science and computer science?
