Youth Leadership Initiative The Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) provides highly motivated and dedicated Roots & Shoots members throughout the U.S. with the training, tools and opportunities to develop into community leaders who can create positive local and global change. Roots & Shoots members who participate in the YLI serve on a council that is supported by one of our Roots & Shoots regional offices. In addition, these regional councils are linked and supported through a nationally based youth council.
